Redmi 12C release: 5000mAh battery, Helio G85 SoC and 50MP dual-camera from ~RM446

Redmi has released a new offering in the affordable smartphone segment, the Redmi 12C, with prices starting as low as CNY699 or ~RM446. The device packs a 6.71-inch display with an HD resolution, a 20.6:9 screen ratio, up to 500 nits brightness and a 1500:1 contrast ratio. 

According to the official Redmi Chinese website, the 12C is powered by the Octa-Core MediaTek Helio G85 SoC paired with either 4 or 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and either 64 or 128GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. There’s also an option to expand the storage by up to 512GB using the included microSD card slot.

In terms of imaging, the device sports a 50MP main camera and an undisclosed second camera at its rear which supports HDR, portrait mode, night mode and more. As for the front-facing camera, it is housed inside the display’s teardrop notch and features a singular 5MP selfie camera. 

Moving on to its battery, the 12C has a 5000mAh cell with support for 10W charging. Other notable specs include a 3.5 audio jack, dual SIM, Bluetooth 5.1, 192g weight, 8.77mm thickness, MIUI 13, rear fingerprint scanner and colour options of Shadow Black, Dark Blue, Mint Green and Lavender.

In China, the device is sold at these configurations and prices:

  • 4/64GB - CNY699 or ~RM446
  • 4/128GB - CNY799 or ~RM510
  • 6/128GB - CNY899 or ~RM574

As of the time of writing, the Xiaomi subsidiary has yet to reveal whether the 12C will be sold outside of China. So, what do you guys think of the affordable device?
