If you pay attention to smartphone launches, you would notice that many brands emphasise mobile gaming performance now. As you know, some brands even have gaming smartphones. That shows how much mobile gaming is growing, and a new report provides some insights on that.

A report by Tencent and Newzoo claims that the games market will generate a revenue of USD 175.8 billion (~RM742.58 billion) in 2021. This massive number is driven by emerging markets, including Southeast Asia. In SEA alone, esports will generate USD 39.2 billion (~RM165.58 billion). The interesting bit is mobile esports being a major industry in our region, with PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang leading the way.

For our region, this growth is due to the high accessibility of mobile devices, which allows increasingly more people to access mobile games. In fact, it's revealed that up to 82% of the online population in SEA play mobile games. And 39% of that gaming population spend more of their time playing mobile games. Once 5G becomes prevalent in our region, those numbers are expected to grow.
