An exciting rumour has popped up recently claiming that the iPad mini 7 would feature 120Hz ProMotion. However, reputable display industry analyst Ross Young says he would be 'surprised' if it's accurate, which tells us that it might not happen.
Young, an analyst from the Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), mentions that the current iPad mini 6 uses a-Si LCD backplane technology. A-si, or amorphous silicon, is the display tech famous for its low cost and relatively simple production process. Most importantly, it's incompatible with ProMotion. Therefore, if Apple were to use ProMotion on the upcoming iPad mini, it would have to switch to a different display.
@DSCCRoss Have you heard anything about an iPad mini 7 with 120Hz ProMotion?https://t.co/7Jd5cO1wls

Earlier, another rumour suggested that the tech giant is testing a Samsung-supplied display for a future iPad mini in the same 8.3-inch factor that will support ProMotion technology. This makes us question if Apple's still planning on it, even with the analyst claiming it's unlikely to happen.
