Researchers discovered a new way to identify people through their breath, can it be used to unlock a phone?

At the moment, there are two best ways to unlock your phone - using a fingerprint scanner or face recognition. Both are easy and quick, and there seem to be no other ways, but it seems that a team of researchers from Kyushu University and the University of Tokyo in Japan just brought a breath of fresh ideas to the table (pun intended).

Yes, as the title says - using your breath could potentially be a new way to unlock your phone. The team said that each of us has unique chemistry in our breath which can be identified for diseases, like diabetes. They tested using a 16-channel odour sensor to analyze each person's breath of chemical composition, which can also identify several odours.

During their research, the breathing accuracy rate of a unique person is 97.8% person which is surprisingly high. It's only behind fingerprint scanning at 98.6%, whereas facial recognition remains the highest at 99.97%. Although the team has yet to create a device that is attached to a phone for breath recognition, we think it could be bonkers if that happens.

Of course, the research of this study is fairly new so there's nothing much to add to the world of smartphones. The team may not have thought of that yet but what do you think? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
