It seems that we are entering into the age of remakes and remastered for old school games. Resident Evil 2 was a popular hit among fans and we only got Resident Evil 3 remake just a few days ago. And about a few hours ago, there are reports that Capcom have greenlit Resident Evil 4 and it's now in development.

While that may sound exciting for the Resident Evil and gaming fans (but many also prefer a Resident Evil Code Veronica remake, as seen on Twitter), this news is not exactly confirmed by Capcom as they have yet to make an official statement. It's said that the original game director, Shinji Mikami, declined the project but gave his blessings and offered advice on the direction to M-two Studio who is helming the remake. According to reports, the RE4 remake has been in development since 2018 and it's scheduled for 2022 released.

Given that the original RE4 was Capcom's highest-rated game in their catalogue (selling 7.5 million copies worldwide), it makes sense to remake the game from a business point of view. RE2 remake sales are reaching 6 million which exceeded expectations and RE3 remake has lower sales, but that can be forgiven due to the outbreak. Fun fact - RE4 popularized the Third-Person Shooter view which many games nowadays followed suit.
