A new camera from Ricoh has been designed specifically for users who are looking to do live streaming in surround 360-degree. The new Ricoh R Developer Kit includes a 360-degree camera that can capture everything, at 2K resolution to be fed straight online. Plus, this can be done for up to 24 hours.

The camera features a unique and first-of-its-kind technology in which the video is stitched within the camera in real time to the Equirectangular Projection Format, which is the standard format for fully spherical images. Video is then outputed via HDMI or USB, and—by using an AC power adapter – continuous, live streaming up to 24 hours is now doable. It also records footage straight into a micrSD card.

The camera kit will be out by Spring 2017, and in the box users will get a camera stand, a Software Development Kit (SDK) and source code to encourage third party apps development.
