The popular online game Roblox has been completely banned in Egypt. The Supreme Council for Media Regulation will work with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority to ensure the ban is properly enforced. So, what should you know about it?
There is a huge concern about the children’s psychology and well-being
For your information, the move to ban Roblox followed a proposal by Senator Walaa Hermas Radwandid, who claimed that Roblox could affect the moral values and education of Egyptian children. He also voiced concerns about children being contacted by unknown individuals and the psychological effects of the game on underage users.
Moreover, Roblox released a statement saying its existing security controls are strict and exceed those of many other platforms. Egypt joins other countries that have banned or restricted Roblox, including Iraq, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkey and Russia, which also claim it contains content in the form of LGBTQ+ propaganda.
In Malaysia, online games are still accessible to underage users, with MCMC currently researching the best mechanism to regulate online games for children through the Online Safety Act 2025.
