Roborock Q Revo review - A more affordably priced fully autonomous Robot Vacuum

Smart Home products have been in Malaysia for a few years now and among the most popular ones are Robot Vacuums! Recently, we got our hands on the Roborock Q Revo, which features a fully autonomous robot vacuum and mop that can automatically wash its own mops to shave off maintenance time. Now, most of the time, these robot vacuums and mops with autonomous cleaning features tend to cost a fortune for higher-end markets. But thankfully, the Roborock Q Revo is only priced at RM3799. So, are there any drops in efficiency with a cheaper price tag? Read our review to find out.

Comparing it with other Roborock models, like the S8 Pro Ultra, the Q Revo has a different design and setup for the base station, which is both taller and thinner. Tanks for clean and dirty water are located at the top with no top covers, and the dust bag is now situated in a centre compartment of the base station with a removable front panel. For me, I like this design more than its flagship model because it is not that bulky. It saves more space and makes it easier to find a corner to place it.

Plastic Scrubs (Left), Dust Bag (Right)

The other difference I noticed are the cleaning materials used in the docking area. This Q Revo uses plastic nubs to scrub the pads while the mop pads rotate inside the station instead of using a dedicated brush. I think that's one of the changes made for it to be more affordable.

The robot has a standard round-shaped design, with a top-mounted LiDAR sensor and infrared obstacle recognition, which Roborock calls Reactive Tech, on the front bumper. It also has two rotating mop pads, a bristleless brush roller, a side brush, bottom sensors, and wheels.

The material for the bumpers are scratchable plastic, so I think that regardless of whether you choose the white or the black colour, it will get pretty obvious scratch marks after using them for some time. Just something to keep in mind if that bothers you.

Setting up was pretty simple. Just scan the QR code, download the Roborock app from your Apple App Store or Google Play Store and follow the instructions to get connected in minutes. Once you're connected, it will start by creating a full map of your house during the first run. After that, you get to customize and place the virtual walls, set no-go zones, rename the rooms and add virtual furniture to it so it will avoid that specific space accurately. That's something you don't often get on other budget-friendly Robot Vacuums.

As for suction power, it comes with a huge 5500Pa with 5 vacuum modes from silent to Max+. Another thing I've tested that the Q Revo did pretty well was carpet detection. It detects carpets quite accurately and will turn on the suction power to auto boost mode when it is on carpets. The other thing that you don't find on other similar price range robot vacuums is the auto mop lifting. When it detects obstacles like carpets, it will lift the two mop brushes before entering the carpet zones. This really helps if you want to avoid getting your carpet wet when you set it for a full house cleaning.

Speaking about mopping, the Q Revo can continuously wet its mop pads, then wash and dry them while it's back at the docking station for cleaning. That's thanks to having the water tanks on the base dock, with 5 liters for the clean water tank and 4.2 liters for the dirty tank, as well as a 2.7 liter dust bag. Despite its plastic nubs, it cleans pretty well. The great thing about it is that you do not need to refill the water for mopping during each cleaning cycle, as the onboard clean water tank can last up to a month before you need to refill it. But of course, you still need to take the dirty water out and empty the dust bag from time to time to avoid odours or germs. If you want to have a more thorough cleaning, you can also purchase the detergent separately for it.

The 4.2L Dirty Tank and 5L Clean Tank

Throughout my cleaning test, the Q Revo did a pretty good job at cleaning off stubborn stains like coffee stains or dark-coloured stains, as well as detecting most obstacles in my house. But it does struggle with charging cables on the floors, which will be sucked up at times, along with any loose particles from my wooden strip floor. So, be mindful of that.

As for the battery, the Roborock Q Revo comes with a 5200mAh battery that can last about 2 hours and a bit more in normal cleaning mode. That's enough for my 1000-square-foot house, as it only consumes a maximum of 60% of the battery life when it returns to the dock to be charged.

So... is it worth buying?

Well, it is if you're looking for a fully autonomous robot that can vacuum and mop your floors autonomously. With a price tag of RM3,799, the Roborock Q Revo is slightly higher priced than the affordable ones but much lower than the flagship autonomous models. A few things you need to take note of includes cleaning the mop pads from time to time and the plastic scrubs, as they will have dirt stains after some time.
