Last weekend, Rockstar confirmed that the data breach was through a third party, not their own internal systems. That said, what should you know about it?
For your information, the ShinyHunters hacking group claimed responsibility and demanded a ransom, threatening to leak data on April 14. Rockstar stated that only a "limited amount of company information was affected by this attack," stressing that it had no impact on players or their operations.
Thankfully, it will not affect the launch of GTA 6
Additionally, the hackers are believed to have used stolen authentication tokens via a third-party analytics tool connected to Rockstar's cloud infrastructure. This was not a direct attack on Rockstar's main servers.
While player data is safe, reports suggest it could have involved internal financial information, marketing plans and partnership contracts. Most importantly for gamers, this attack will not affect the launch of GTA 6 after it was delayed several times.
