The Apple Pencil is currently an iPad Pro-only device, so the desktop Apple products can’t take advantage of the flexibility and creative options that is available with the Pencil. Now however we may just see something for the desktop in the near future, as Apple as just patented a Pencil-like device, but for the desktop.

According to the patent filing, the pen device will be pairable with the desktop, and then work either in pen/pencil mode, and surprisingly, a 3D-aware mode for spatial manipulation on screen. We suspect this is more for 3D objext manipulation, but we would like to call this as ‘joystick mode’.

We may see this new device be a reality by the end of the year, or perhaps by next year – just in time for the new range of iMacs and MacBook Pro to be refreshed. Stay tuned to TechNave for more information soon.
