While they are more generally known for their traditional cameras, Olympus are known to step out of their box to create new products for the general market. Their upcoming action camera certainly looks like something that rugged photography enthusiasts should take a look at.
Parked under their ‘Tough’ brand, the action camera has a long form factor rather than a wide one, like the GoPro and Xiaomi Yi. Thanks to the ‘Tough’ branding we can straight away deduce that the camera will have great water and dust proofing. This means that this camera will be great for shallow water dives (snorkelling) and rugged outdoor activities that may involve a boatload of water and mud.
At this point of time, we do not know what kind of sensor the camera will carry, but it looks like there will be some sort of changeable lens, for possible applications such as wide angle shot, or even a zoom lens. It also looks like there will be a flash built-in, or perhaps a flashlight/torch to light the way.
It may look like something out of a Terminator movie, but we expect the upcoming Olympus action camera to be one of a kind.
