The bets on Apple launching the new iPad Pro before 2022 ends are high. Before that happens, someone tipped that the tablet might sport a new connector for the accessories, which could even cause incompatibility with the existing ones.

The information is claimed to be from "reliable sources in China", as spotted by 9to5Mac. It mentions that the upcoming iPad Pro 11 (2022) and iPad Pro 12.9 (2022) will both have the same housing designs as the current models but with four-pin connectors instead of three on the "top and bottom side edges." Due to direct translation, the source mentions that it's confusing with the description. However, it's probably talking about the top and bottom of the back when held in either portrait or the landscape.

Earlier, rumours were pointing to the new iPad Pro supporting MagSafe, but the technology uses a five-pin connector. Therefore, this new report is not about that. The extra pin is suspected to be used to assist in powering peripherals. As the existing Smart Connector already does this, perhaps they mean more power could get provided for the upcoming iPads.
