Rumours: ASUS ZenFone 3 coming in May 2016 with fingerprint sensor?

ASUS ZenFone 3 rumour.jpg

Unfortunately, this isn't the ASUS ZenFone 3... but it could be.

Coming courtesy of suppliers, this rumour indicates that the upcoming ASUS ZenFone 3 smartphones will also come with a fingerprint sensor developed by Elan Microelectronics and Goodix. While no specific Malaysia release dates were mentioned, it will probably be announced sometime in January or February 2015 (probably during one of the earlier expos) with a regional launch in April or May 2016 (like last year for the ZenFone 2). We expect this fingerprint sensor to be one-touch and located on the back along with the rear volume controls.

Other tech specs are still unknown but we also expect that it will retain 4GB RAM and perhaps laser autofocus. Still no news on whether the ZenFone 3 will be using Intel or Qualcomm processors, but if ASUS want to maintain their focus on performance, they will likely utilize either the latest Intel Atom X5 or Intel Atom X7 processors or shift to the Snapdragon 652 series. Stay tuned for more developments with us as we'll let you know as soon as possible but for now, best take this rumour with a pinch of salt.
