Just after two days of unveiling the new Apple iPhone 7 series, a patent application from Apple was submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, showing details of how a wireless charging station could be finished by their new brushing and polishing tools.

So what's so special about this? Well, as application usually covers polishing techniques for cylindrical and contoured surfaces, Apple's version shows a way to create some space for an inductive charging coil, which means a wireless charging device is confirmed. The image above shows an illustration of a charging dock, providing electrical current via inductive power transmission, the inductive transmitter coil is designed in such a way that it wraps around the metal core and pair with a receiver coil for charging purpose.

That being said, back in September 2012, Apple Marketing Chief, Phil Schiller mentioned that the company wasn't sure of how the current state of wireless charging technology was since they had to be plugged into a wall. Apple has also shown interest in WiTricity's wireless charging tech that uses "hidden" charging method that allows magnetic fields to wrap around the barriers, this also allows users to place their charging pads wherever they want with convenience.

Wireless charging was one of the rumoured features that the iPhone 7 series would have, but it seems that the feature didn't make it to the cut. This indicates that Apple is still working on the technology to be perfect and could be saving it for the 10th Anniversary iPhone next year.
