Just a few hours ago in the USA, AppleInsider.com spotted an Apple patent published in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and it was revealed that the company has been experimenting flexibility of an OLED display. Does this mean we will see a dual curved display on the next iPhone? Or even perhaps a foldable one?

Titled "Flexible display devices", the patent describes the OLED display being able to be folded in half, think of it like the 90's flip cellphone but in full OLED display instead, which could prove to be a technological breakthrough if they succeed. To make it possible, what Apple plan is utilizing some flexible OLED parts and a hinged metal, which is made of nickel and a titanium alloy called nitinol that has elastic properties.

Besides that, the single or multi-shaft hinge will connect two sections of the phone, allowing the top and bottom to rotate relatively to each other with a flexible printed circuit board.

Speaking of the two sections, Apple is envisioning the top to feature cameras, display controllers, speaker modules and light sensors; while the bottom carries the CPU and graphics processor, microphone, possibly the haptic technology and other smartphone hardware.

Furthermore, the patent shows that this is applying on the Apple iPhone, but it's also possible that the technology can find its way to other products such as the iPad series which would be awesome.
