Rumours: HTC is getting IP57 water resistance and dropping the headphone jack

Yesterday, we posted the first leaked image of the HTC U (or Ocean) and while it does look great, there are still some questions of its credibility. Anyway, ROM developer @LlabTooFeR has just given the Internet a tip on what we can expect from HTC, and it turns out that the HTC U will be getting an IP57 water and dust resistance grade.

Ok, so it will be a water and dust resistance phone. So what? Well, what matters is the grading there IP57. At this moment, only a few flagship phones are using IP68 grading which only allows 1 feet under water. IP57 allows the phone to go as deep as 3.3 feet for 30 minutes, without any disturbance to the device. How reliable is this information? Quite legit, as @LlabTooFeR has a good reputation of giving off HTC features that usually end up on the final product.

On the other hand, he also mentioned that HTC is following the path of Apple and Motorola by dropping the 3.5mm headphone, possibly in favour for the IP57 feature. As well as a single SIM and dual SIM variants for the phone.

So what do you think? Is installing IP57 water and dust resistance grade on a device even possible? Should HTC keep the headphone jack? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more HTV news at TechNave.com.
