Rumours: LG applies for “UltraWide Mobile+” – beyond widescreen smartphones soon?

Standard smartphones today are built around the 16:9 screen ratio when rotated to the side (apart from the LG Optimus Vu that had a 4:3 screen ratio). Right now however LG may want to buck the trend, as they just patented a new screen form factor for mobile, dubbed “UltraWide Mobile+”.

As more companies try to innovate to make themselves stand out in the crowd – the new patent from LG may give them a legs up against their competitor – if it is executed properly. This screen ratio is the same as cinema screens, so smartphones using this form factor may use their design to simulate a movie watching experience.

We don't know if this will stay as a patent or it will go ahead and be used as a design in one of their future smartphones. So stay tuned to TechNave for more news when more information appears online.
