While the Helio X25 is still in production, Mediatek is already hard at work in the next generation SoC called the X30. According to reports online, this upcoming processor will best Qualcomm’s current champion, the Snapdragon 820 by a significant margin.

The Helio X30 is expected to be built by TSMC using the 10nm process, making it twice as efficient as the current Helio X20. The new SoC will be using ARM's new Artemis cores alongside older Cortex cores, and will continue to employ the tri-cluster designed used by its predecessor.

Early benchmarks with the X30 shows that it leads the pack, with over 30000 more points than the Snapdragon 820 on Antutu. This is the same processor that is being used by current flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and HTC 10.

The Helio X30 is reportedly to support a dual camera set up, a 26MP camera, VR connections, LTE Cat.13 connectivity, and 8GB of RAM. Will we see a cheap phone with 8GB in the near future?
