It’s been awhile since we last heard of any Microsoft Malaysia launch of their devices, the last time that they did was the reveal of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL last year and that was about it. Of course, to be fair, they aren’t a smartphone manufacturer company to begin with. But there are new rumours of the company developing a new Windows 10 smartphone that focuses on AR.
According to Brad Sams, an executive editor with Thurrott, the Lumia smartphone lineup will no longer be manufactured and they will be working on a Surface branded smartphone, which Alex Kipman is in charge of. Just a fun fact, Alex was involved on the HoloLens project. With that being said, this seems to connect the dots, bringing AR to a smartphone and it seems to be a trend in the near future. Joining the likes of Apple who are already planning to have AR in their iOS 11, ASUS with their Zenfone AR, and a new rumour about Huawei integrating AR into Mate 10 as well.
Another backup to this rumour was that back in June, there were rumours of Microsoft on a secret Surface Mobile project designing two phones which are codenamed Suface Peking and Suface Slavonia powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor.
That’s all we have about the information for now but what do you think? Do we really need AR and is it necessary? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more Microsoft news at TechNave.com.
