Rumours: Microsoft to license the Nokia brand to Foxconn

NokiaLogo.jpgA rumour is circulating out of China that Microsoft, the current owner of the Nokia phone brand, is intending to close the division inside the company handling the brand and will licence the brand to Foxconn Corporation. Microsoft owns the right to use the Nokia name for smartphones until 2024, according to the deals when they owned the latter in 2014.

This may not bode well for employees at Microsoft handling Nokia, but it will definitely bode well for the news of the upcoming Surface phone. The same rumour said that the closing of Microsoft Mobile will result in the team being folded into the Surface group.

Foxconn is a big conglomerate that builds motherboards, parts and OEMs for smartphone brands. One of the biggest names under their hat is Apple.
