Rumours: New patent from Nokia shows possible foldable from the company

It seems the rising trend for 2017 will be foldable phones. Samsung is said to have one phone coming soon this year, and apparently Nokia is working on something as well, if this patent recently unearthed is any indication.

The patent diagrams show a device with a clam-shell design that looks like a square pocket mirror, but what we suspect is a flexible touch screen. It looks wacky, and certainly reminiscent of the old Nokia designs of yesteryear. The patent description says the design makes it possible to have a ‘‘pocket size device with a relatively large display (for example, a 6, 7, or 8-inch display or larger)’’. The device also has a sort of lock that keeps both halves in place, a design found in laptops of old.

If this design comes to fruition, we may see the start of a new trend in smartphone design – a nice break from the usual glass slabs that we usually see on smartphones these days. Stay tuned to TechNave as we bring more news on this new Nokia patent.
