Rumours: Next Google Glass may use AAA batteries

Augmented Reality (AR) is fast gaining traction again, thanks to the popularity of games such as Pokemon Go. However for more serious application, everyone remembers the Google Glass from Redmond. The current generation of Google Glass currently uses a proprietary rechargeable battery, but a new patent from Google may change things a bit – they are proposing the next Google Glass to be powered by AAA batteries.

The filing states that the batter is to be put in a removable battery compartment to counterbalance the touchpad, which is located on the temple. What makes this filing special is that the battery compartment can be customised to fit different battery types – from AAA to a 9V battery. The case can also house a rechargeable battery if needed.

This is still a patent filing – so we can’t say if the product will go to market anytime soon. However the prospect of just dropping by the sundry shop to change your battery rather than needing to find a power plug is enticing – and more AR products is welcomed too.
