The current generation of the Olympus OMD E-M1 is a great photography tool, with images created with the camera going on to win awards in multiple contests around the world. However, the big drawback for the camera is that it is not design fully for sports photography, in particular fast action sports such as motorsports. However according to reports, the update to the Olympus mirrorless flagship will have features that will turn the tide for mirrorless sports photography.

Improvements may include faster shutter speeds, faster flash sync and higher frame per second for the frame rate that the camera saves images into the memory card. There are also possible improvements in the video mode, in particular the possible inclusion of 4K recording into the E-M1 Mark II.

Olympus may keep the price of the upcoming model the same as when the original camera came out the market, but this is something to look out for when the camera launches later. Photography buffs should look forward to the announcement of the new camera during Photokina in September.
