A new patent application by Samsung Display published today in South Korea shows a possible 3-in-1 device that transforms from a watch into a phone, and even a tablet. This transformation is made possible the new technology based on stretchable OLED display.

What makes this different from foldable displays is that the whole screen is malleable, and can be reshaped to shapes that are needed by the user. So the users can go from a smartwatch form factor, to a candybar design, and even spread the screen out to be a tablet. All of this in one device.

We have to wait for Samsung to share any concrete plans with this patent. They are not even coming out with anything using their foldable screen tech as of yet, so this design may just be far in the future rather than sooner than we would like it to be.
