Rumours: Possible Samsung folding screen phone design patented

Next year may be the year of the multi-mode smartphone. We have seen several companies playing around with bendable screen technology so we can expect a product in the mid to far future that will have a foldable screen. Samsung had patented a design for their foldable smartphone which looks interesting yet a little baffling.

The patent that was made to the USPTO shows a clamshell device with an almost square-like form factor. What is interesting about this design is the location of the charging port and the curved screen. The former sits in between the two halves of the phone, right on the hinge.

We predict that there will be some sort of a dock that will be either included or sold separately if this design comes to market. Imagine plugging in your old game cartridge into your old game console – that may just be how the phone charges.

The second item of note is the curve of the phone screen. Rather than using the Edge series curved screen, it looks like it will curve following the contour of the face – Ala LG Flex 2.

As this is only a patent, we at TechNave could not guess if it will become a real product. We will update our loyal readers once more information appears.
