Rumours: Samsung Galaxy S8 to have optical fingerprint scanner – or will it?

A new report states that the next Samsung Galaxy S8 may feature optical fingerprint recognition, rather than the current capacitive sensor that is being used by most smartphones out there.

The advantages of having an optical fingerprint sensor is minimal, as it needs a camera to capture a 2D image to process – and this system is easily circumvented by unscrupulous individuals without too much of a problem.

Of course the report may be wrong, and instead Samsung may be looking at an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, like the one made by Qualcomm and is in the Xiaomi Mi 5s. Of course, Samsung already has a better security lcok device in the now failed Samsung Galaxy Note 7 – the retina scanner. Will we see the retina scanner in the Galaxy S8? Stay tuned to TechNave to find out.
