Rumours: Samsung allegedly testing a 10nm Exynos 8995 chip at 4GHz

As one of the few System on a Chip (SoC) manufacturer in the world, Samsung has spend considerable amount of R&D money and time to develop the best processor optimised for the mobile space. With the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 sporting an Exynos 8990, the next Samsung phone (which we expect will be the Samsung Galaxy S8) will probably use the Exynos 8895 SoC. Reports are saying that Samsung is hard at work testing the new chip, running at 4GHz.

Like all the Exynos before, the 8895 is expected to be an octacore SoC, with four high performance cores and four low-power cores in one package. The rumours states that the faster cores are being tested at 4Ghz clockspeed. This new SoC will be one of the first to be fabricated with the 10 nanometer (nm) fabrication process. This may make the processor one of the more power frugal for next year.

Of course we don’t think the SoC will be running at 4GHz at launch, but Samsung is certainly doing their due diligence for the upcoming flagship processor for their 2017 flagship smartphone. Will we see it in any of 2016’s phones, or we have to wait for 2017? Stay tuned to TechNave to find out more.
