Rumours: Samsung considering prioritizing Tizen over Android soon

One of the biggest smartphone makers in the world may soon find themselves considering to wean off the dependence on Google's OS and instead turn to their own home brand. Samsung's Tizen is not new – with their Samsung Z model available in select market, and their smartwatches running on their own OS. The fact that they may just turn away from Android could be a game changer.

While the idea is not too outrageous, the fact is that Tizen's ecosystem is far inferior and the fact the major apps are not on that platform. Tizen started off as an OS that is designed to compete with Google on Android's turf. It did not gain that much of a traction as it wanted, but with Google's dominance in the mobile space, Samsung feel that they want a slice of that pie.

An advantage if Samsung would go on their own platform is that they have complete control in software development, and do not need to wait for OS and security updates from Google. Who knows what Samsung would do in the long run, but safe to say they will still be running Android for the time being.
