It is no surprise that big brands such as Sony would choose the best processors for their flagship units. Thusly so, the upcoming Sony flagship phone the Sony Xperia XZ Premium will come fully equipped with the Snapdragon 835 chipset. It just so happens that the same chipset is used in the latest Samsung flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. With that said, the Xperia XZ Premium has also recently popped up in the Geekbench benchmark platform so we can have a rough idea on what level of performance this phone will be on.
According to Geekbench, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium (listed as Sony G8141) has scored 1943 points in the single-core test and 5824 in the multi-core test. The numbers are very promising and actually quite impressive.
To give everyone a better picture on how it fares against other devices with the same chipset, the Galaxy S8 scored a 2008 and 6575 points respectively while the larger Galaxy S8 Plus scored 2006 and 6708 respectively. On top of that, the Xiaomi Mi 6 (also using the same chipset) has scored 2006 and 6438 points respectively.
Yes, it can be seen that the Xperia XZ Premium’s score did not surpass any of the mentioned devices and only loses out by a small margin. However, let’s not forget that the Sony flagship will also be packing a 4K display resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels which will also influence chipset performance compared to the other mentioned devices with smaller resolutions. There is also no way to know if the benchmark was performed on a pre-production version. Only time will tell.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is expected to go on sale globally by the end of May with an estimated Malaysian price of RM3599.
