The upcoming upgrade to the current MIUI, the MIUI 9.0 is speculated to be coming in July with cool new features and big improvements. XiaoMi CEO Lei Jun has also confirmed that the latest update will be more stable, powerful and smoother.

Although there was no mention of which devices will receive it and when, the update is expected to be less of a visual update and more of the addition of new features.

One of the highlights of these features would be the availability of the split-screen mode where you can watch your favourite videos and write that important email at the same time. This feature was going to be implemented in the current MIUI 8 but it’ll be implemented in the 9 instead.

Other new features would be the picture-in-picture (PIP) function, screen recorder function and the ability to delete built-in apps such as the Calendar or Calculator.

If the rumours are true, the MIUI 9 is expected to be announced in July and will be rolling out to users starting from August but as all rumours, please remember to take it with a pinch of salt.

We reckon that the official Malaysian release will also be around the time of August but do stay tuned to TechNave.com for more upcoming updates.
