Rumours: Xiaomi and Huawei to launch curved-screened smartphones

The days of phones having just flat fronts may soon be over. While so far only Samsung and Vivo has curved screened smartphones, the former being the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and the latter being the Vivo X5 Play, soon we may see more companies with curved displays for their smartphones. Reports suggesting that Huawei and Xiaomi will be the two new players to the curved screened market.

For Huawei, it will be parked under the Mate moniker, with the possible name being the “Mate Curve”, with the screen coming from Samsung’s factories. The phone is said to be powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 950 SoC and be coupled with 4GB of RAM. Plus, it may just use standard AMOLED screen display technology instead of Super AMOLED from Samsung. Sources online forecasts the phone to be priced around the USD600 (~RM 2400) price range.

Xiaomi meanwhile will be looking at LG to supply them with the curved display, and will possibly name the model as Mi Edge or Mi Note Edge. As LG’s curved display is more of a gentle curve, like the one in the LG Flex, we might see the Xiaomi smartphone have a similar design, unless LG starts on their curved displays by the middle of the year. The Xiaomi phone should be packed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, and a 16-megapixel rear camera. It is expected to be priced around the USD450 (~RM 1800) mark.

We will update everyone once more information of the devices appears online, so stay tuned to TechNave for more breaking tech news.
