The Malaysian government has confirmed the rollout dates for this year’s Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) and Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) cash assistance programmes. That said, what should you know about it?

This aid will arrive soon

For your information, eligible Malaysians aged 18 and above will receive a one-off RM100 SARA aid credited directly to their MyKad starting 9 February 2026. Meanwhile, Phase 1 of the Rahmah cash assistance, offering payments of up to RM500, will begin on 20 January 2026.

Moreover, these announcements were made as part of the government’s 2026 Year's official address, outlining continued efforts to ease the cost of living for households across Malaysia. The SARA aid will be distributed via MyKad, allowing recipients to use the credited amount at approved retail and grocery outlets nationwide for essential items.

The Rahmah cash assistance will be rolled out in phases, with the first phase commencing on 20 January. Eligible recipients can expect to receive up to RM500 during this initial stage. The phased distribution is intended to ensure a smoother payout process while reaching millions of beneficiaries nationwide.

From a digital standpoint, both programmes highlight Malaysia’s increasing use of cashless systems to deliver government aid. By leveraging MyKad as a payment medium, the government continues to streamline welfare distribution while reducing reliance on physical cash handling.

Recipients are encouraged to verify their eligibility status ahead of the announced dates and stay updated through official government channels for further details on redemption locations and participating merchants.
