SK hynix confirmed the start of production of LPDDR6 memory based on the latest 10nm (1c) class process in the second half of 2026. The development of this 16-gigabyte chip is specifically targeted for use in smartphones and tablets that support artificial intelligence (AI) functions on the device.
Preparations for mass production are underway
For your information, preparations for the mass production phase are underway throughout the first half of 2026 to meet global market demand. The data processing performance of LPDDR6 memory records a 33% speed increase compared to the existing LPDDR5X standard.
Moreover, a base operating speed of up to 10.7Gbps enables high-bandwidth AI tasks to be executed faster. The expanded data processing capacity per second helps the device provide AI responses directly without relying on external servers.
Additionally, energy efficiency is improved by over 20% through the use of a sub-channel structure and Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS) technology. The sub-channel structure selectively handles data paths while DVFS adjusts voltage and frequency according to the chip's workload.
Moreover, this mechanism ensures lower battery consumption during standard usage while maintaining maximum bandwidth performance for heavy-duty applications such as video games. Users will enjoy longer battery life and more optimal multitasking performance on future devices.
