The Malaysian Sports Event (SUKMA) 2024 will make history in the country when it will be the first SUKMA to be broadcast through 5G-Advanced (5G-A) technology, allowing the organizers to broadcast it with ultra-low latency (ultra-low latency) and efficiency higher for live broadcasts. Now, a few local telcos have joined the fray. So, what should you know about it?

The technology is implemented in collaboration between CelcomDigi, U Mobile, ZTE and Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) and will be used to broadcast the opening ceremony which will take place on 17 August 2024 at the Sarawak Stadium. The companies also work with Sarawak Digital Economy Corporate Berhad (SDEC) which provides fibre backhaul.

It will use mmWave AAU technology by ZTE which offers the largest bandwidth and an array of 1,024 antennas, Carrier Aggregation, Cluster Dynamic Frequency Selection and Native AI Intelligent RAN. All these technologies allow a single cell to reach a capacity of over 30 Gbps, while individual users can reach speeds of up to 8.5 Gbps.

The public is invited to the 5G-A Pavilion at the Sarawak Stadium to see and understand this technology. Last May, ZTE set a new record in the Malaysian Book of Records where in a live demonstration, they used 5G-A technology to achieve download speeds of up to 28.0 Gbps.
