Samsung Exynos 1200 might not be what we want as the successor of Exynos 1080

Samsung is preparing to launch a mid-range chip soon, which is the Exynos 1200. However, although it's considered a successor of the Exynos 1080, new information proves that it might be far from fulfilling the requirements to become the powerful next-gen mid-range chip.

Similar to Exynos 1080, the Exynos 1200 also uses a 5nm process. The upcoming Samsung processor will have two ARM Cortex-A78 CPU cores operating at 2.4GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz, alongside the ARM Mali G68 MP4 GPU clocked at 1GHz. However, the previous Exynos 1080 came with one Cortex-A78 core running up to 2.8GHz, three more Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6GHz, and four Cortex-A55 CPU cores at 2GHz. It even gets a more powerful Mali G78 MP10 GPU.

Therefore, the Exynos 1200 isn't really a fitting successor of the Exynos 1080, as it's obviously a downgrade rather than an upgrade. The chip is said to be featured in the upcoming Galaxy A33 and A53. Let's see if the chip is truly what we found here by then.
