What they found out

The folks at iFixit just love tearing down smartphones and this was no different for the Samsung Galaxy S4 / S IV when it officially came out. After a brief tear down they discovered that the Samsung Galaxy S4 / S IV:

  • has a removable battery
  • has an iFixit score of 8 out of 10
  • uses IR sensors near the screen to enable Air View and Air Gesture
  • has one of the most sensitive screens around (can even use with gloves)
  • has the same 4G LTE chip as Google Nexus 4

Very Easy to Repair

With an iFixit score of 8 out of 10 the Samsung Galaxy S4 / S IV is very easy to repair. To put this in perspective the Apple iPhone 5 got an iFixit score of 7 out of 10 while the near unrepairable HTC One has an iFixit score of 1 out of 10. This means if you drop and damage your Samsung Galaxy S4 / S IV it should be relatively easy and affordable to repair. While the removable battery isn't something new, do remember that the HTC One and Apple iPhone 5 both don't have a removable battery, so if you're starting to have charging issues you can replace the battery on the Samsung Galaxy S4 / S IV but won't be able to do so by yourself with the HTC One or the Apple iPhone 5.
