Samsung is reportedly preparing to introduce its first tri-fold smartphone this October, with early pricing estimates suggesting it could cost over RM14300 (approximately USD2600).

This upcoming device, possibly named the Galaxy Z Trifold, signals Samsung’s next major step in foldable smartphone innovation, moving beyond the current Z Fold and Z Flip lineup.

TM Roh, President of Samsung's mobile division, has confirmed the company's efforts to refine the usability and design of a multi-folding smartphone ahead of its expected launch later this year.

The tri-fold form factor has been in development for several years and is now closer to mass production, likely aligning with the company’s end-of-year hardware cycle.

The device is expected to debut as the Galaxy Z Trifold, based on Samsung’s recent trademark applications. Unlike traditional foldables, the tri-fold design folds twice inward, forming a "G" shape when closed.

What we could expect

This design allows the phone to unfold into a much larger tablet-like display, expected to be around 10 inches—significantly larger than the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s inner screen.

The tri-fold phone is also likely to include a dedicated external cover screen, unlike Huawei’s outward-folding approach. The internal folding display is expected to use Samsung's latest OLED technology, offering improved durability and multitasking capabilities.

On the hardware front, the phone is rumored to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy or a newer “Elite” variant, continuing Samsung’s partnership with Qualcomm for its flagship foldables.

It may also adopt the same camera system found on the Z Fold 7, which includes a 200MP main sensor, a 10MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultrawide camera.

However, availability may be limited at launch. Early reports suggest the device will first be released in South Korea and China, with global availability—including Malaysia—likely to follow later depending on demand and production capacity.
