Clamshell foldable devices seem to be trending towards larger cover displays in 2023. In fact, we've already seen this with the OPPO Find N2 Flip, vivo X Flip, and Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to follow this trend and could optimise some apps to work better with its larger cover screen.

According to Sammobile, the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 can run Samsung and Google apps optimised for its 3.4-inch cover display. Apps like Google Maps would work better on it, allowing you to navigate without unfolding the phone. It will even have an allegedly unique interface. But we're unsure if this refers to the optimisation or an overhaul of the UI.

Besides Google Maps, the source confirmed that Samsung Keyboard, YouTube, and Messages would get the optimisation treatment. It was also mentioned that most Samsung apps will be optimised. Since Android 14 is expected to launch later this month, we could also see some new Android OS features integrated into the cover display.

Overall, it sounds like Samsung wants to create more use cases for the cover screen. But if people find it unnecessary to unfold the phone, wouldn't it make more sense to get a regular phone in the first place? What do you think about that?
