Samsung has been working on its futuristic foldable smartphones since the launch of Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Z Flip, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and park it as the ultimate multitasking smartphone. Last month, Samsung has been reported to be working on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold3 which might be adding an S-Pen and also the first Samsung smartphone to be having an under-display camera (UDC). Today, we have a new report from ETNews to further support the statements.

According to the source, an insider mentions that Samsung has developed a new screen that will support the under-display camera. So how it works is that the gap between the pixels underneath the display will be made wider to allow light to pass through. And there will also be special algorithms set to correct the image as the light will be refracted by the OLED display layer.

The Pixel Gaps for the UDC placement

So if you can see on the macro shot of the Axon 20 display as an example, it uses a similar approach for its under-display camera technology and there is only one specific spot that has a wider gap between the pixels for the camera lens. This is to ensure the quality of the display will not be affected due to the wider pixel gaps. Samsung LSI will supply the UDC camera module and the Galaxy Z Fold3 is expected to be unveiled in the third quarter of 2021.

Either way, there is still no official confirmation on the tech specs and release dates of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3, so do take this as a pinch of salt. But it will undoubtedly be the next big thing with UDC technology. Stay tuned for more tech news updates on TechNave.com
