Have you been planning to buy a foldable phone but held back for various reasons? Maybe you already have an earlier model, like the first-generation Samsung Galaxy Z Fold or Galaxy Z Flip. And with the latest generation launching recently, you are thinking about upgrading.

You may be considering whether getting the new Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 is worthwhile. If that's what you want to know, you've come to the right place. Today, we're here to tell you how the new models have improved over their predecessors and why you might finally want that foldable phone upgrade.

Galaxy Z Fold6 vs Galaxy Z Fold5

Let's start with the first one - the Galaxy Z Fold6. At first glance, it may not seem like there are any changes. But, the new model is thinner at 12.1mm when folded and 5.6mm when unfolded, partly thanks to an upgraded hinge. At 239g, it's also lighter than its predecessors. On top of that, the Enhanced Armour Aluminium ensures that durability remains high. It's even rated IP48 for solid protection against the elements.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 is the thinnest in the series

Aside from its physical dimensions, Samsung also gave the Galaxy Z Fold6 a slightly larger 6.3-inch cover screen. This was done by making the bezels marginally thinner and adding more to the corners of the screen. As a result, the bezels are more even and the screen is more immersive. In addition, the cover screen has a higher max resolution of 2376 x 968 pixels, a higher peak brightness of 2600 nits, and an improved adaptive refresh rate from 1-120Hz. The main 7.6-inch screen shares the same upgrades, except the max resolution is 2160 x 1856 pixels.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 also has internal upgrades, such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. It features a CPU with around 18% more efficiency and a GPU that's 19% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. From general productivity to gaming, you can trust the Galaxy Z Fold6 to outperform previous-generation models.

Like its larger counterpart, the Galaxy Z Flip6 doesn't seem too different from the Galaxy Z Flip5. But if you look closely, you'll find it has enough design changes to make it look better. For instance, the rear cameras now have 'rings' around them to highlight the cameras. The Galaxy Z Flip6 also features the upgraded Flex Hinge, Enhanced Armor Aluminium and IP48 water resistance.

While the cover screen remains the same, the main screen now has a peak brightness of up to 2600 nits. The new Galaxy Z Flip6 also received a significant battery capacity upgrade, now rated at 4000mAh. In addition, the RAM was upgraded from 8GB to 12GB, which should make multitasking even smoother. Last but not least, the Galaxy Z Flip6 also features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

The biggest upgrade is the main camera. Where the Galaxy Z Flip5 sported a 12MP main camera, the Galaxy Z Flip6 more than quadrupled that with its new 50MP camera. It now supports optical zoom of up to 2x and new features like Auto Zoom, FlexCam selfie, and more. More importantly, the 50MP camera captures more details.

Galaxy AI - The cherry on top

But that's not all. The two new Samsung Galaxy Z series foldable phones also have the latest OneUI with Galaxy AI. This makes the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 Samsung's first foldable phones with access to powerful AI features, which include Circle to Search, Note Assist, Interpreter Mode, and more. You can refer to our previous article on how these features work with the new devices.
