The second Galaxy Unpacked has finally arrived and as usual, the next-gen Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 have been revealed. Without beating around the bush too much, here are some details of the tech specs, features, prices and availability that you should know.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 - Enhanced with AI
Starting with the Galaxy Fold6, the design is still similar as usual but it's now a bit wider at 2.7mm and weighs 239g. Available in silver shadow, navy blue and pink, it's equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. It also offers an upgraded gaming experience, supported by its 1.6x larger vapour chamber to maintain performance. Even Ray Tracing support is available but of course, subject to select mobile games' availability. The 7.6-inch screen also has a brighter display of up to 2,600nit to deliver more immersive gaming.
Most of the AI features are quite similar to the Galaxy S24 series such as Circle to Search and Photo Assist but further enhanced with Google Gemini. The latest Google Gemini app is fully integrated with some of your favourite Google apps. For example, when you want detailed information about a certain topic on the phone, you can access the Gemini overlay by simply swiping the corner of the screen or saying, “Hey Google”.
And there are new ones such as Note Assist. It offers translation, summaries, and auto-formatting for simple and easy meeting notes. Plus, a newly embedded transcript feature enables transcription, translation and summarizing of voice recordings directly in Notes. Texts in PDF files can be translated and overlaid perfectly through the PDF overlay translation feature in Notes and it even supports text in images and graphs.
To add on, the Interpreter comes with a new conversation mode that enables both parties to conveniently view translations on the main and cover screens for more natural interactions. It also offers one-way translation, so you can easily understand when listening during lectures or any other type of presentation. Live Translate, which translates phone calls directly on your device in real time, is also now being extended beyond Samsung’s own native calling app to a selection of popular third-party apps.
Additionally, a newly added Composer from Samsung Keyboard generates suggested text based on simple keywords for email and supported social media apps. For social media in particular, the Composer creates text that reflects your tone by analyzing previous posts. To complement this, the S Pen experience is expanded further meeting with Galaxy AI on the Galaxy Z Fold6’s screen. All-new Sketch to Image allows you to create more sophisticated art pieces by generating image options when you simply sketch or draw on the photos in the Gallery or Note screen.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 - More personalised
Next up, the Galaxy Flip6 still looks the same as before but now with a new camera ring design. You can also put multiple widgets on the 3.4-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow and the AI can even give suggested replies there. Samsung said the overall build is enhanced further thanks to the dual rail hinge with shock distribution, the same goes for the resistance pressure and sharp injection. Crease visibility is lesser than before and the phone uses Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Like the Galaxy Fold6, the Galaxy Flip6 also has an Interpreter conversation mode and besides that, Samsung is marketing the phone to have "effortless" customisation. The wallpaper is said to be "lifelike" called Photo Ambient which can change in real-time based on the time and weather. You can also easily create a unified look and feel with suggested screen layout options by analyzing your wallpaper - such as moving the clock and changing the frame colour to ensure the background image stands. There are other AI features for the cameras such as AI Portraits, auto-zoom and zoom camcorder mode.
Speaking of cameras, the Galaxy Flip6 features a dual 50MP (primary) + 12MP (ultrawide) rear camera. The new 50MP sensor supports 2x optical zoom for noise-free photos while offering AI zoom for an advanced shooting experience with up to 10x zoom. Nightography, enhanced with video HDR allows you to capture videos in dim lighting and goes further by partnering with popular social apps. The night capturing feature is now available in-app on Instagram, whereby you can message or share them directly from within the app.
In other tech specs, the Galaxy Flip6 also has 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. The battery pack is upgraded to 4000mAh (previously 3700mAh) and to support all the AI-driven features, its vapour chamber has increased (150% larger than the Galaxy S23 Ultra). It's worth mentioning the IP48 water and dust resistance rating too.
Prices and availability
The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 also come in a packaging box made from 100% recycled paper material, and Samsung will provide seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates.
