Samsung Malaysia Electronics have announced that their latest "Samsung Solve for Tomorrow 2024" competition is open for entries. It invites Form 1 to Form 3 students (ages 13 to 15) to use their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills to solve real problems facing their communities. The theme this year is "Start with Can".
The competition offers a prize pool worth up to RM80,000 in technology and classroom supplies. Samsung Malaysia is working with Universiti Malaya to make this happen, aiming to build a strong STEM talent pool in line with Malaysia’s goal of becoming a high-tech nation by 2030.
Dato’ Roh Jae Yeol, Samsung Malaysia’s Director of Corporate Affairs, highlighted the importance of nurturing creativity and innovation in young minds. He emphasized that the competition is not just about winning but about empowering students to transform their ideas into real solutions.
How It Works
Students must submit an 800-word proposal outlining their ideas by 16 September 2024 at Samsung's website. Entries will be judged on creativity, feasibility, STEM application, and the relevance of the issue addressed. The top 10 teams will be shortlisted in October 2024 and move to the next round, where they will receive mentorship and develop prototypes.
The competition will conclude in December 2024 with a pitching process to determine the winners. Prizes range from RM28,000 worth of Samsung products for first place to RM3,000 worth of Samsung products for fifth place.
