After months of rumours, Samsung have officially announced their rugged, water-proof Samsung Galaxy S4 Active smartphone. While we're wondering what they are going to reveal at the Samsung Premiere event on 20 June 2013, it does confirm quite a lot of rumours that have spread about the Galaxy S4 Active. For now the tech specs of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active include:

  • 1.9GHz Quad-core processor
  • 5-inch TFT LCD (1080p, Glove Touch)
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB Storage + up to 64GB microSD
  • 8MP rear camera + 2MP front camera
  • 2600 mAh battery
  • 9.1mm slim | 151g
  • supports ambient light, accelerometer, barometer, digital compass, finger hover, gesture, gyro and proximity sensors
  • Android 4.2.2
  • IP67 dust and water resistance rating

The IP67 rating for dust and water resistance means that you can bring the Galaxy S4 Active along if you want to go snorkeling or swimming in the pool. The smartphone is rated at 1 meter underwater for up to 30 minutes. Even the earphone jack has been made water resistant, so you can choose to be plugged in regardless of where you are. It also has an Aqua mode camera feature, to help make underwater shooting more vivid. As usual, the normal S features such as Dual Shot, Group Play and so forth are also available. Talking about availability, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active will be available in Q3 of 2013 in Urban Grey, Dive Blue and Orange Flare (all of which have already been leaked). It will likely make its official debut at the Samsung Premier event but still no details on pricing just yet.
