The Samsung ATIV Q Hybrid Tablet combines the best of two worlds from two different categories by combining a tablet with an ultrabook and Windows 8 with Android in one single device. Featuring a multi-mode hinge on the keyboard part, the ATIV Q can be used as a tablet, a notebook computer, a touchscreen desktop and a floating display. It is also no slouch in terms of tech specs which include:
- 4th Gen Intel Core i5 Processor
- Intel HD Graphics 4400
- 4GB DDR3L RAM
- 128GB SSD
- Camera (720p HD)
- 13.3-inch Touch display (3200 x 1800 pixels, 275ppi)
- Supports S Pen (1024 levels sensitivity)
- 327.0 x 217.8 x 13.9mm thick | 1.29kg
- Battery (Up to 9 hours)
- Supports 1x USB3.0, 1x USB2.0, HDMI, RJ45 (dongle), HP/Mic combo, micro SD
- Windows 8 + Android
Unlike some other systems which have both Windows 8 and Android, the ATIV Q allows smooth seamless integration between the two operating sytems. Pin Android apps onto the Windows 8 start screen or access files saved in Windows 8 from your Android apps. Samsung did not reveal how exactly they did this but, the end result is a very good system that combines the best of both. Just in case integration isn't your thing though, Samsung have allowed you to turn off Android if you want. Through Samsung's SideSync, the ATIV Q can also share or use the functions and features of your connected smartphone.
Of note is also the huge 3K resolution screen that so far dwarfs practically every other notebook or tablet recently released. We've no doubt that everything looks great on it, but in terms of applications, only a designer, architect or engineer would probably need a screen of that pixel resolution. So far, Samsung have not revealed details on pricing or availability but we expect it to be upper premium level due to all the higher end features.
