Last month, it was rumoured that Samsung would delay its Extended Reality (XR) headset to 2024. It's believed that Samsung wanted to improve some aspects of the headset to compete with the Apple Vision Pro. But it seems we could have some updates sooner than expected.
Samsung President TM Roh has hinted that we might soon get an announcement regarding the Samsung XR headset. Of course, it doesn't mean the product will be launched in 2023. But if this is true, we would at least have some official news about it.
According to ZDNet (via Sammobile), Roh said the headset won't be a one-off. The Samsung President allegedly had this to say:
"We are not looking to be happy about launching a single product or creating an ecosystem for one company. Like smartphones, what we are doing is opening an XR ecosystem. We are expecting an announcement in the not-too-far-off future."
In other words, we could see future successors for the Samsung XR headset. Samsung could also launch other products or mobile apps linked to the XR ecosystem. Perhaps the company might look into developing lower-cost headsets too.
But what do you think? Are AR/VR headsets potential replacements for smartphones? Share your thoughts in the comments below, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
