It is no doubt that Samsung will continue to launch folding smartphones this year according to previous rumours. However, it looks like the Korean tech giant is trying to deliver something new by offering a new folding mechanism in the upcoming device. It is said that the company will be the first to offer a dual-fold design in the industry.

According to Nikkei Asia, Samsung is working on a smartphone that can be folded in two places. It is also found out that the firm has submitted several patent applications for the design. Therefore, it is likely that we'll be seeing a new form factor from the upcoming Galaxy foldable smartphone.

Other than that, it is claimed that the screen can have an aspect ratio of 16:9 or 18:9 when unfolded. It is worth mentioning that Xiaomi has also shown a prototype of such a smartphone two years ago, but it seems like Samsung is the one who is ready to step into the game first. Furthermore, Samsung is also planning to sell over 10 million foldable smartphones this year compared with around 3.5 million units last year.
