Samsung might again be pushing its limits on what it can do with camera's megapixels. A new patent has shown up, hinting that the Korean tech giant is developing a 450MP sensor, surpassing the 200MP ISOCELL sensors that the company currently owns.

According to the source, Samsung recently applied to secure the "Hexa2pixel" trademark with KIPRIS in Korea, and the same also appeared in Europe via TMView. The technology could be a sequel to the Tetra2pixel, which switches a 200MB resolution to a 50MP mode with 2×2 pixel binning or 4×4 pixel binning. Hexa2pixel could be a new binning technology that works similarly by combining 32 pixels (6×6 pixels) into one, meaning that the sensor has a resolution of 450MP.

However, the trademark doesn't mention anything about a 450MP sensor. Therefore, it could be just our creative imagination. Anyway, it's not entirely inconceivable that Samsung will launch this big sensor eventually since it had made history with the 200MP sensor earlier. Not to say that the megapixel war is always fierce in the smartphone industry, so it's just a matter of time before someone makes this come true.
