Many smartphones has microSD slots to support additional local memory expansion. Thanks to Android 6.0 expanded memory function, the microSD can be added as part as the system memory. To further expand your paltry 16GB/32GB internal storage, Samsung as introduced their latest entry to their EVO SD line, the EVO Plus 256GB.

Yes that is right – a quarter of a terabyte of storage in microSD format. Not many phones out there can support the card, but to those which can, this is a new level of portable storage option.

Just as comparison, a couple of years ago a 32GB microSD card is considered huge. The mammoth capacity is made possible owing to Samsung’s V-NAND technology and the company said it offers read and write speed of up to 95MB/s and 90MB/s respectively.

Here are some numbers. The card can store:

  • Up to 12 hours of 4K footage
  • Up to 33 hours of 1080p footage
  • 55,200 photos
  • 23,500 songs

Samsung will start selling the EVO Plus 256GB microSD card in June, with a sticker price of USD 249.99 (~RM 1,000). It will also come with a limited 10-year warranty out of the box.
