Samsung has just announced a new LPDDR5X DRAM chip that is the thinnest in its category. The 12 nm class chips are available in 12GB and 16GB packages. It is designed for the low-power RAM market and targets smartphones with on-device AI capabilities.

For your information, the new chip measures 0.65mm thin making it 9% thinner than the previous model. Samsung estimates it will reduce the temperature by up to 21.2%. Samsung created the new chip by optimising printed circuit boards (PCBs) and epoxy moulding compound techniques.

In addition, it is built in a 4-stack structure which is four layers assembled together and each consists of two LPDDR DRAMs. Samsung has already started shipping this latest memory chip to manufacturers. In the future, Samsung plans to develop 6-layer 24 GB and 8-layer 32 GB modules.

We have yet to confirm other details on the device. So, we should wait for more confirmation from Samsung. Hopefully, everything goes well.
