Although this sounds wild, it is doable. According to the latest report, Samsung plans to use electric vehicle (EV) battery in its smartphones. Doing so, it will allow for higher capacity in a similar-sized package.

Korean media outlet The Elec reports that the stacking method used in the EV battery allows at least a ten per cent increase in the battery capacity. The current smartphone batteries produced by Samsung use the "flat jelly roll" method, which limits the space for additional capacity as the company needs to consider the natural swelling of the battery during charge and discharge.

If it's used, a smartphone battery that is at 5,000mAh using the current method can go up to a 5,500mAh capacity without any increase in size. Samsung might even shrink the size of the batteries but maintain their capacitiy. The report also mentions that the Korean company could start a pilot line at its Tianjin plant in China, while the production line will take place in its home country.
